Hunter/Gatherers
This section will describe hunting/gathering and how it is fundamentally different from agricultural and (later) industrial societies.
Transition to Agriculture
The transition to agriculture made many things possible, or made them possible in new ways: surplus, wealth, waste, and charity. This section will describe how gleaning becomes possible in these new contexts. It also outlines how gleaning is different where family farms or commons predominate and where industrial agriculture reigns.
Modern Gathering
This section will talk about modern gathering practices in the U.S. It will contrast gleaning and gathering, pointing to what they share as well as how they differ.
