- March 31 Show up with Dover's edition and Waterfield's translation; in class we will read up to the speech of Phaedrus in English, and discuss the dramatic date and structure of the dialogue.
- April 2 Read intro material in Dover; read translation through the speech of Phaedrus; begin translating the Greek at 180c1 Φαῖδρον; try to get to 181a6 ἐρᾶν. Helpful notes.
- April 4 Read intro material in Waterfield; translate from 181a7 ὁ μὲν οὖν to 181d3 γενειάσκειν. Helpful notes.
- April 7 Read Winkler, John J. "Laying Down the Law: The Oversight of Men's Sexual Behavior in Classical Athens." In David M. Halperin, John J. Winkler, and Froma I. Zeitlin. Before Sexuality. Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1990, pages 171-209 (eCommons). Go over the Greek from 180c1 though 181d3 (what we've done for the last two classes), and try to do a few more sentences if you can.
- April 9 Quiz on present, imperfect, future, and aorist tenses of παιδεύω (active, middle, and passive; indicative, imperative, subjunctive, and optative; including participles); sample here. Begin by reviewing the parts we've done already, then keep reading. I hope to get through 182a1 μὴ ἐρᾶν.
- April 11Translate through 182a6 δικαίως φέροι. Helpful notes. Keep reviewing! It will improve your reading speed and fluency and also serve you well in upcoming tests.

- April 21 Give some thought to your paper topic! Read in translation at least through the end of Pausanias' speech; read further if you can. Keep on reading in the Greek; try to get at least through 184a2
- April 23 Review the portion we translated in class (through 184a2); then read in translation through the beginning of Aristophanes' speech. Begin translating again at 189d5 δεῖ δὲ and try to get through 190d3 σκελοῖν.
- April 25 Review the portion we translated in class (through 190c1 τοῖς θεοῖς); translate through 191c8 ἐπιμελοῖντο.
- April 28 Review the portion we translated in class (through 191b1 ἀλλήλων ποιεῖν); translate through 192a5 ἀσπαζόμενοι.
- April 30 Quiz on forms of ἡ φιλία and ὁ ἐραστής (first-declension feminine and first-declension masculine). Review the portion we translated in class (through 191e5 γίγνονται); translate through 192d8 ἀπολείπεσθαι ἀλλήλων).
- May 2 Quiz on forms of ὁ ἐρώμενος (seond-declension masculine). Review the portion we translated in class (through 192b5 ἀσπαζόμενος); translate through 193b2 στρατηγός).
- May 5 Quiz on forms of ὁ Σωκράτης and ὁ ἔρως (third-declension stem in -εσ- and third-declension stem in a dental). Review the portion we translated in class (through 192e5 τύχητε); translate through 193d5 ποιῆσαι).
- May 7 Review the portion we translated in class (through 193d5 ποιῆσαι); read in translation from there to 212d3 (entrance of Alkibiades). Translate from 212d3 καὶ οὐ πολὺ ὕστερον) to 213b3 ἀναδεῖν.
- May 9 Review the portion we translated in class (thorugh 213b7 συμπότης); translate through 213e6 κατακλίνεσθαι. Write out your answers to the questions I wrote on the board: On what bases does Socrates criticize Agathin's speech? How does Socrates' speech respond to Agathon's? To Aristophanes'? What is Eros' object?
- May 12 Test 2 (on 189d5 through 193d5). After the test we will continue in the text from 213e6 κατακλίνεσθαι.
- May 14 Read Nussbaum chapter (on eCommons). Review the portion we translated in class (through 214b8 ὅτι βοὐλει) and continue through 215a3 καταριθμῆσαι.
- May 16 Review the portion we translated in class (through 215a3 καταριθμῆσαι) and continue through at least 215d6 κατεχόμεθα.
- May 19 First draft of papers due (5-8 pp.); bring 3 extra copies to class
- May 21 Review the portion we translated in class (through 216b2 αἰσχύνομαι) and keep on going!
- May 23 Review the portion we translated in class (through 216d6 σωφροσύνης) and continue through 217c6 τὸ πρᾶγμα. Bring edited drafts to class!

- June 6 Last Day of Class Review the portion we translated in class (through 219c5 ὕβρισεν) and read through 220c3.
