Yael Chaver

Yael Chaver is a native speaker of Yiddish and has a Ph. D. in Yiddish from UC Berkeley, where she teaches Yiddish language and literature. Her interests lie at the intersection of modern Yiddish and Hebrew culture. She leads study and discussion groups on Yiddish culture in the Bay area, and is the author of two books, What Must Be Forgotten: The Survival of Yiddish in Zionist Palestine (2004), and its Hebrew version Ma She-Khayavim Lishko'akh: Yidish ba-Yishuv he-Khadash (2005). Her work has appeared in Jewish Social Studies and Yiddish and she has presented extensively at international conferences.
