Texts
The only text you'll need to begin with is Allen Rogers Benner's Selections from Homer's Iliad (University of Oklahoma Press, 2001). You should also have a good translation of the Iliad and Odyssey; I recommend Fagles' translation, or Lattimore's.
It is available at the Literary Gullotine.
There is a dictionary in the back of this text, as well as a grammar, which you can supplement with Smyth and the resources in the classics library (especially Cunliffe's Lexicon).
Class Requirements
Be in class every time, on time, with all assignments prepared. We will have quizzes on translation (including pop quizzes) and, if I deem it necessary, on vocabulary and morphology as well. Grades will be calculated as follows: quizzes (15%), class participation and preparedness (35%), four tests (35%), and final paper (15%). There will be no final exam.
Assignments will also be posted regularly on our assignments page.
